What’s Now Mandatory to Complete Your Pathways Levels
Effective October 2025
If you’re working on your Pathways journey, there’s important news: Toastmasters International has added new requirements to complete each level. Don’t worry—your existing progress is safe! But going forward, you’ll need to do more than just complete your speech projects.
The Big Picture: What Changed?
Starting in October 2025, every Pathways level now requires you to:
- Complete specific meeting roles (all 5 levels)
- Deliver educational presentations (Levels 3, 4, and 5 only)
These additions ensure you’re actively participating in your club while developing your skills. Let’s break down exactly what you need to do at each level.
Level 1: Building Your Foundation
Meeting Roles Required:
- Table Topics Speaker (must complete this BEFORE your Ice Breaker speech!)
- Evaluator
- Timer OR Ah-Counter
Educational Presentations: None
What This Means: Before you can complete Level 1, you need to participate in three basic meeting roles. The Table Topics requirement is especially important—you’ll need to do this before delivering your Ice Breaker speech, so plan accordingly!
Level 2: Understanding Your Style
Meeting Roles Required:
- Grammarian
- Table Topics Master
- Evaluator
- Toastmaster, Timer, OR Ah-Counter
Educational Presentations: None
What This Means: Level 2 introduces you to more complex roles like Grammarian and Table Topics Master. You’ll complete four meeting roles total, building on what you learned in Level 1.
Level 3: Putting Skills Into Action
Meeting Roles Required:
- Toastmaster
- Evaluator
- Table Topics Master, Table Topics Speaker, OR Introductory Mentor
Educational Presentations:
- One presentation from the Successful Club Series
What This Means: This is where educational presentations begin! You’ll choose one topic from the Successful Club Series (options include “Creating the Best Club Climate,” “Meeting Roles and Responsibilities,” “Keeping the Commitment,” or “Going Beyond Our Club”). These presentations are 10-15 minutes long, so coordinate with your club officers when scheduling.
Level 4: Making a Bigger Impact
Meeting Roles Required:
- Toastmaster
- General Evaluator
- Evaluator
- Table Topics Speaker, Table Topics Master, a Specialized Role, OR repeat a role listed above
Educational Presentations:
- One presentation from the Successful Club Series
- One presentation from the Better Speaker Series
What This Means: Level 4 significantly increases your commitment. You’ll deliver TWO educational presentations—one on club success topics and one on public speaking fundamentals. You also take on the General Evaluator role for the first time, one of the most challenging meeting positions.
Successful Club Series options for Level 4: Finding New Members, Closing the Sale, How to Be a Distinguished Club, or Toastmasters Educational Program
Better Speaker Series options: You can choose ANY of the 10 presentations: Beginning Your Speech, Concluding Your Speech, Controlling Your Fear, Impromptu Speaking, Selecting Your Topic, Know Your Audience, Organizing Your Speech, Creating an Introduction, Preparation and Practice, or Using Body Language.
Level 5: Demonstrating Expertise
Meeting Roles Required:
- General Evaluator (twice!)
- Toastmaster (twice!)
- Evaluator (twice!)
- Table Topics Speaker, Table Topics Master, Ah-Counter, Timer, Grammarian, Club Mentor, a Specialized Role, OR repeat a role listed above
Educational Presentations:
- One presentation from the Successful Club Series
- One presentation from the Leadership Excellence Series
What This Means: Level 5 is the most intensive, requiring you to complete major roles multiple times to demonstrate mastery. You’ll also deliver two educational presentations focusing on advanced topics.
Successful Club Series options for Level 5: Moments of Truth, Evaluate to Motivate, or Mentoring
Leadership Excellence Series options: You can choose ANY of the 11 presentations: Service and Leadership, The Leader as a Coach, Developing a Mission, Motivating People, Building a Team, Delegate to Empower, Resolving Conflict, Visionary Leader, Values and Leadership, Goal Setting and Planning, or Giving Effective Feedback.
